At Brabin’s we work hard to keep pupils safe, happy and flourishing so that our Christian vision is lived out in everything we do. We believe that pupils must feel safe before they can learn and achieve their potential, so effective safeguarding for children and adults is paramount. We are fully committed to making this happen.
We follow the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education to inform our duties and our actions to promote the welfare of every pupil.
- At least two members of every interview panel are trained in safer recruitment and we apply those recommendations consistently.
- Safeguarding training for all staff takes place at least annually, with regular updates throughout the year.
- I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead. We have two Deputy Designated Leads: Miss Hamer and Miss Garth.
- Our Whistleblowing Policy and Codes of Conduct are shared with all adults who work in the school.
- Any behaviours that could develop into bullying are dealt with promptly and we keep clear, secure records of behaviours, concerns and pastoral needs so we have a joined-up picture of every child.
- We make referrals for Family Help / early help when appropriate and maintain open, constructive communication with families.
Pupils are taught about keeping safe in many ways across the year. We are a My Happy Mind school and deliver an active PSHE curriculum that promotes healthy relationships and respect; pupils are supported and guided throughout the school day. We have systems that encourage pupils to raise worries and speak out (for example, worry boxes and other age-appropriate routes). If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please contact me.

Brabin’s Endowed Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its pupils. As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability.All staff are expected to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.On 1 July 2015 the Prevent duty (section 26) of The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 came into force. This duty places the responsibility on local authorities to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.As part of Brabin’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection, we fully support the government’s Prevent Strategy.
